Christian Life no 30
His Name brings His Presence
Brian Kocourek, Pastor
Romans
Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name
of the Lord shall be saved. Again the same promise of God.
Mark 13:13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's
sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
again we see the same promise. And it all has to do with
the Name.
Matthew 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's
sake: but he that endureth to the end shall
be saved.
Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall
save his people from their sins.
Now, this morning we are
going to look at the Name of Jesus and the power of that name, and
how there is no salvation outside that name, and how even demons tremble
at the name of Jesus Christ. And we know according to the Scripture we already
read that salvation is in the name of Jesus and in no other name but the name
of Jesus.
So let us pray....
Now, in speaking on the
name of Jesus I would like to read from brother Branham's sermon Christ is the
Mystery and we will examine paragraph 241 "Now,
show me where somebody was baptized in the Body in the name of
Father, Son, Holy Ghost? And what you recognize? See, I realize I'm talking
to thousands on tape, you know. We got a tape ministry around the world. What
name are you baptized in? For there's not another name given
under heaven (said the Word) whereby
man can be saved. And if you're baptized to show your
belief in Christ and then take on a creed name, then you're a
hybrid.
In his sermon Witnesses
54-0303 P:35 brother
Branham said, "Every man, today, knows that he
can take the Name of Jesus Christ and meet any foe at any place, any time, and
he will be defeated. I've met witch-doctors. I've met demons of all sorts
and never seen a time but what they'd bow to the Name of Jesus Christ.
Tell you, friends, when the Church lost the Name and the power of the
Name of Jesus Christ, they lost it. When they went down... When
Moses went down to
Watch demons scatter. Yes, sir. The Name of Jesus Christ...David
said, "You meet me as a Philistine, with an armor and spear but I
meet you in the Name of the Lord God of
Notice
brother Branham's words here. The name of Jesus
in your hands is the power of God in your hands, just like that
rod Moses had, he used it to manifest the power of God, and you have the name
of Jesus to bring forth the manifestation of the power of God. But why don't
you use it?
Jesus
said in John
God's chosen place worship 65-0220 P:32 Now, we say, "The church, the great,
mighty church, she did this, and she did that. She's weighed the storms. We've
picked up in population; we're great in numbers; we're a mighty church; she's a
great thing." But God never said anything about a "she,"
He said, "Him." "Him" is the meeting place, the
Lamb, not the church. It's not her name, but
His Name. He didn't put her name anywhere, He
put His Name in Him. That's why all we must do or word or in deed, we
must do it all in the Name of Jesus Christ. If we pray, we got
to pray in the Name of Jesus. If we ask petition, we've
got to ask in Jesus' Name. If we walk, we walk in Jesus'
Name. If we talk, we talk in Jesus' Name. If
we baptize, we've got to baptize in the Name of Jesus Christ. For all that we do in word or in deed, do it
in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Be certain of God 59-0708E P:80 "These signs shall follow them that believe." You believe I believe? You believe?
"Then these signs
shall follow them that believe: If they lay hands on the sick, they shall
recover." You
believe it? Pass by. In the Name of Jesus Christ, may you
get well. Come, sister. Crippled, you believe that God can heal that crippled
boy setting out there, can heal you too? Then give Him praise and you'll get
well in the Name of Jesus Christ. Come, sister. Do you believe? In
the Name of Jesus Christ, be made well. Do you believe,
little boy? In the Name of Jesus Christ, God, heal this
child. Do you believe, brother? In the Name of Jesus Christ,
may he be healed. You believe, sister? In the Name
of Jesus Christ, be healed. In the Name of Jesus Christ,
be healed. You believe, sister? In the Name of Jesus Christ,
be healed. In the Name of Jesus Christ, be healed,
brother. In the Name of Jesus Christ, be healed. Come,
sister. You believe with all your heart. In the Name of Jesus
Christ, may you be well. In the Name of Jesus Christ,
may my brother be healed.
12 Times out of 12 people brother
Branham prayed for, he used the name of Jesus Christ and he gets results. I
kind of watch these things, and over the years I've noticed quite a few people
when they pray they never use the name of Jesus Christ. They say, "Lord,
or God" or "in your name God", or "in your name Lord"?
Well, who are you praying to? There's more than one god out there, because
Satan is the god of this evil age. And there are many who have the title Lord,
because even Baal means Lord and master. But there is only One Lord Jesus
Christ.
And again in his sermon, Total separation from
unbelief 64-0121 P:81we hear brother Branham call
out the name of jesus for everyone passing through
the prayer line. "Now I want every one to continue in prayer
as the people come by, and I'll be laying hands upon each one for their
healing.
Come, sir. I pray for this,
my brother, in the Name of Jesus Christ, to be healed.
I pray for this, my brother In
the Name of Jesus Christ, to be healed.
I pray for my sister, in
the Name of Jesus Christ, for her healing. Amen.
I pray for my sister, in
the Name of Jesus Christ, for her healing.
I pray for my sister, in
Jesus' Name, for her healing.
I pray for my sister, in
Jesus' Name, for her healing.
I pray for my brother, in
the Name of Jesus Christ, for his healing.
I pray for my sister, in
the Name of Jesus Christ, for her healing.
I pray for my brother, in
the Name of Jesus Christ, for his healing.
I pray for my brother, in
Jesus' Name, that You heal him.
I lay hands upon our brother,
in the Name of Jesus Christ, for his healing.
I lay my hands upon this
brother, in Jesus' Name, for his healing.
With my hands laid upon this
brother, I ask for his healing, in Jesus' Name, while he's in the Divine
Presence here now of Your anointing.
Listen, we all know that the name is very important because the name carries the character. It
defines the seed life. You all know that? That is why we don't name our children
"Elvis" because it means cat, and "Rickie" means rat. Names
have meaning because the name carries the character. And people ought to
research the meaning of a name before they name their children, or you may have
trouble on your hands later on.
And the name of "Jesus",
"Yeshua", derived from "Jehovah",
carries the character of God.
I can prove it in the
Bible.
Let's turn to Exodus chapter
3, and we will read from 11 through 15.
Exodus
What is the Token God promised Moses? His presence. he said, he said, (god Himself said,) Certainly I will
be with thee; and this (this
what? This Presence, My Presence) shall be
a token unto thee, that I have sent
thee:
When thou hast brought forth the people out
of
Now, notice Moses asks God
the question. What is your name? And that word name was translated as name from
the hebrew Word "shem". Now there is something special about
this word "shem",
because it actually means in the Hebrew dictionary, not the word name, but the
word character. The word "shem"
is an appellation, as a mark or memorial of individuality; by implication it
speaks of honor, and authority, and character.
So there you have it,
the Hebrew word for name is shem
and it speaks of identifiable characteristics, or character, and honor and
authority.
So Moses is saying, by
what appellation are you known for, what honor, what authority, what character
defines you? And God answers him.
14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM:
and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of
The Jews write the name of
God as JHWH because in Judaism the name of God expresses the very being and
nature of God. As the word "shem" explains,
the very character of God. To pronounce the name of God was to encounter and be
enveloped by the very presence of God. That is why the Jew never mentioned the
name of God, because they thought, "No man can do this and live". Just like no man could approach God's presence
on the mountain and live.
But Jesus commanded us that
we must be baptized in that name in order to receive life, God's own
Life. Why? Because I am that I am simply means "I am the one
Who is Present".
It is in the name of Jesus
that the very character of God was manifested, because after all "Jesus" which was pronounced
in Hebrew as "Yeshua", means "Jevovah Saviour, or Jehovah who Saves"
God's provided place of worship 65-0425 P:91 Only those that are borned
into Jesus Christ, take on His Name... That's right. You take on His
Name when you're borned in there, not by water baptism. Although you can
be baptized in His Name, but that don't take on His Name. You take on His
Name by birth, not by water. See, you're baptized into the Name of Jesus
Christ (Yes, sir.) into fellowship; but you are baptized by the Holy
Ghost into Jesus Christ. So you can be baptized a hundred times, any way
you wanted to, the other way, it'd make no difference. But when you're once
baptized by the Holy Ghost into the Body of Christ, you become a son or a
daughter of God, and every Word is true. And then He did that for that
purpose.
John 8:17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men
is true.
18 I am one that
bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. 19 Then said
they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye
neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have
known my Father also. 20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple:
and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come. 21 Then said
Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me,
and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. 22 Then
said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith,
Whither I go, ye cannot come. 23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this
world; I am not of this world. 24 I said therefore unto
you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in
your sins. 25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus
saith unto them, Even the
same that I said unto you from the beginning.
Notice Jesus says, " if ye believe not that I am he" The Greek words, "ego eimi" or "I am he", Here Jesus absolutely declares
the very nature and presence of His Father is in Him because of his use of "I
am He", as we saw in Exodus 3:14.
We see also in Deuteronomy 32:39 See now that I, even
I, am he, and there is
no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
Again in Isaiah 43:10 10 Ye are my
witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know
and believe me, and understand that I am he:
before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after
me. 11 I,
even I, am the
LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.
So when we read that there is
no salvation outside the name of Jesus, now we know the name of the One who is
the "I am". The One Who is self existing. The
Presence.
And notice they then say like
Moses said they would say, "Who are you." 25 Then
said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
John 8:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know thatI bear the Divine name, "I am he", (I am that I am, I am the One Who
is present) and that I do nothing of
myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. 29 And he that sent me
is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those
things that please him.
Notice the language of presence coming from Jesus, Yeshua, Jehovah the one who saves,
the son of God. He says, He that sent me, is with me, the Father has not left
me, His presence is with me.
And notice that Jesus says
in verse 28, he says, "when
you see that I am lifted up then you will know the power of the name. And
you will see the power of His presence is with me.
And isn't that the promise
we also have according to Romans
Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up
Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall
also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth
in you. 12 Therefore,
brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For
if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do
mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as
many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye
have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the
Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The
Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that
we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of
God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present
time are not worthy to be
compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.,
The use of "the
name" in Christianity springs from the fact that the name is identified
with the person to whom the name belongs, and the belief that the qualities and
powers of that person are inherent in the name so that by invoking that name
His power and authority are called into operation.
In the Greek manuscripts
Power and name were entirely synonymous that some of the Greek theologians used
them interchangeably as we see in the following Scripture.
John
The word name was
translated as name from the Greek word "onoma"
which
is also translated as character and authority or power. Notice then in the
name is the character which is the very nature on display, the authority which
is the power itself, to do it.
Even the Pharisees knew
that there was power in the name of Jesus. notice
in ...
Acts 4:7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power,
or by what name, have ye done this? 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto
them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, 9 If
we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what
means he is made whole; 10 Be it known unto you
all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ
of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here
before you whole.
Look at Peters testimony. He
is telling them that the power to heal, the power to make a man that had been
in that condition for 40 years whole again, and that power lays
in the name
of Jesus Christ.
Again let's turn to Acts 3:6
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I
none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of
And again from Acts
And
Acts
Now let's turn to Exodus chapter 6 and we will find out more about
that name.
Exodus 6:2 And God spake unto
Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: (Jehovah (the) self-Existent or the Eternal
one, Jehovah,) 3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, ( by the
name of El Shadai, the Almighty) but by my name JEHOVAH
was I not known to them.
So God was not known to Abraham, nor
to Isaac nor to Jacob as The One Who Saves, but rather he was known
simply as The Almighty.
Let's read on...4 And I have also established my covenant with
them, to give them the
Because after all is not that what existing means, present? if you exist you are present. So we see that when Moses
calls out to God to know His name, He says I exist that I exist. I am present
that am present.
Exodus 33:15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up
hence.
Why some people can't keep victory 57-0324 P:90
And as God's servant, I
bring you in Jesus Christ's Name in the Presence of Almighty God.
Accepting God's provided way 63-0115 P:19 Our heavenly Father, we are coming into Thy
Presence now as we bow our heads and our hearts in humility. We are approaching
by faith beyond the moon and stars to the throne of God in the Name of the
Lord Jesus, because we are sure that if we come in His Name that You're going to hear us. We will be accepted in Your
Presence through His Name. And what a privilege that it is to know
that we are accepted in the Presence of God, through the Name of Jesus Christ.
And He told us, Father, that whatever we asked in His Name, that You in Your abundance of mercy and grace, would pardon our
sins and would give to us our desire. Father, we're so happy for that.
Testimony on the sea 64-0307 P:3 Our heavenly Father, we are coming now
into Thy Presence, by the way and the Name of the Lord Jesus.
Knowing with the blessed assurance, that He promised us, if we would ask anything
in His Name, that You'd grant it to us.
We are very grateful for this. Words cannot express the way we feel about it,
with assurance that we have, that You're listening to
us just now.
Let us pray...
Now, next Saturday night
