Doctrine No 15
Falling Away
from the Faith
(the Doctrine of Christ)
Brian Kocourek, May xx 2015
This morning we will speak on the subject of Falling away
from The Faith or abandoning The Faith. And we know that "Faith is a revelation", It's something that has been revealed to you. And this
abandonment of the Faith is from the revelation of Christ or the Doctrine of
Christ as John calls it in 2 John 9.
We see it mentioned several times in Scripture as a
characteristic of the end time.
1 Timothy 4: 1-4 1 Now the Spirit
speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from The Faith,
and how
do they do it? by "giving
heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils";
Now, brother Branham
said this is not a departure from faith in general but from The Faith. And he tells us that you
can not have The Faith which is One Faith without having One Lord.
Anointed ones at end time
65-0725M P:186. Here
come Paul right behind Him and said, "Now, in
the last days there will come religious people (See?), having a
form of godliness, and lead silly women, led away with all kinds of worldly... -now as Jannes and Jambres withstood
Moses, so will these reprobates..." Reprobate mind
concerning the faith,
not a faith, the
Faith. One faith,
one Lord, one. You can't have one faith without believing in one Lord. You
can't have two baptisms, not one for the Father, and Son, and Holy Ghost. There's
one baptism, Jesus Christ. That's right. See? False baptism...
Therefore if you have more than one Lord,
you will have more than one faith. Because he said, You can't have one faith
without believing in one Lord.
So what is that when you have more than one
Lord? It is a falling away from The Faith. It's falling away from the doctrine
of Christ, which says, "One Lord One Faith one
Baptism." And the same apostle Paul that taught this said, if any man add to or take away let him be cursed.
Escape hither come quickly
58-0202 P:37 Oh,
brother, what a day that we're living in. The Bible said in this day that
(in I Timothy) "The Spirit
speaks expressively in the latter days they'll depart from the faith, and will
be heady, highminded, lovers of pleasure more than
lovers of God." I come to the church the
other night; it was all together too snowy and bad to come here. But they had a basketball game,
and they had to turn hundreds away. What is it? Their God is basketball.
And what is your God
then? A big blowed up piece of air. I'm glad that our God is the
Lord Jesus Christ in His Person of His resurrection, a real living Creator
Who made the heavens and earth. But they want to
see that. The kind of
spirit in them draws for that. The Spirit in a Christian draws
him to Christ. "How can a man come to Me except My Father draws him."
So whether it is basketball that keeps you away
from Wednesday nights or football or the Super Bowl that keeps you from
Communion service every January, let me repeat what this vindicated prophet
said. He said, what is your God then? A big blowed up piece
of air.
Let me tell you something, I can speak from
experience because I have been there and I've walked away from it all. I signed
three one year contracts with the Minnesota Vikings to play professional
football for them, and I walked away from it because the games are played on
Sundays, and the Holy Spirit kept speaking to me as I was in training camp,
"what will you profit if you gain the world and
loose your soul."
Listen brothers and sisters, we are promised
if we "Seek ye first the
Brother Branham was just a 12 year old boy when
he would swim out into the ponds and streams before
And remember, God spoke in tongues through a
brother who had never even heard of speaking in tongues, and God spoke to
Brother Branham and he quoted what was said in his sermon the Paradox 61-1210 P:144 Because thou has chosen
the narrow path... See, just against, I'd have to
walk by yourself. See? I can understand that.
Moses had to make his choice too. See? He didn't have to do it, but he did
it. See?... the harder
way, thou... (See?)Because thou has chosen
the narrow path, the harder way, thou has made--thou has walked of Your own
choosing. In other words, I didn't
have to do it. I can side in and go with them if I want to. But I want to stay with the Word.
Thou has picked the correct and precise decision, and it is My
way. If you'll notice, it's punctuated
and underlined. If you notice, it's wrote in French, this; spoke in French,
verb before the adverb. See? Because of this momentous decision, a huge portion of heaven awaits thee. What a glorious decision thou has
made. This is itself is that which will give and make come to pass the
tremendous victory in the love Divine.
Therefore, you young boys, let me give you
some advice, don't you play ball on Sundays for anyone. You reserve that day
entirely for God and He will bless that single act of dying to self for the rest
of your life.
Remember the Olympic runner from Scottland named Erid Liddel, he was the fastest man in England in the 100 meter
race, and he went to the Olympics to run that race but when they had his trials
on a Sunday he refused to run, and there was a whole big fuss, because even the
prince of Wales came to him to try to convince him otherwise, but he refused to
back down, so a teem mate who was Jewish ran in his place, because his Sabbath
was Saturday, and so Eric Liddel was to run in the
400 meter race instead and he had not even prepared himself for that kind of
endurance sprinting.
But before the race, an American sprinter
came up to him and handed him a piece of paper with a scripture written on it.
The Scripture was 1 Samuel
And God stepped in, and God gave him breath
to run that race that was set before him and he won the Gold medal for his
country as well.
Never forget, "All things work together for the good of those who love the
lord and are thee called according to His purpose."
So God honored him for honoring God. Will
you do the same?
Now, we are talking about departing from The Faith. You say, oh, it's only a football game, oh it's only a basketball game. Departing from The Faith.
Jehovah Jireh part 2 62-0706 P:34 What a hope it is for the church
tonight in the hour of darkness, superstition, sensation, intellectual. The Holy
Spirit said, "In the last days there'd come an intellectual church. The
Spirit speaks expressingly (I Timothy 4), in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, give
heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils (Sure.), having a form of
godliness." What were they doing? "Heady, high-minded...": Doctor Ph.D.,
LL.D., QST, all these titles. "Why, Doctor So-and-so, a times so-and-so,
is our pastor." I'd rather some man, being my family or my child, that
didn't know the difference between split beans and coffee, and knowed Christ.
That's right. Take him out yonder somewhere by an old stump and kneel down on
his knees and pray with him till the Holy Ghost comes into him. I'd rather
have that than all the psychology you could pour into him by a doctor's degree.
Tell him the Word of God. Yes.
So the prophet of God shows us how they will
depart from The Faith, and he says
it comes by degrees. Disbelieving one word at a
time. One word disbelieved by one word disbelieved. "Here a little and there a little. And the falling away is just the opposite of
coming into the image of the first born son, which is completed by piling Word upon Word upon word. But you also depart
the same way, only in reverse. One word set aside by one word set aside by one words
set aside. Until the Word is entirely absent from your life.
In fact that is what we
hear the scripture tells us.
Isaiah chapter
28 from
the Amplified version,
5: But in that future
Messianic day, the Lord of shall become a crown of Glory and a diadem
of beauty to the converted remnant of His people; 6 and for a Spirit of
Judgment (that's the Judge) to him who
sits in judgment (that's His elect) and a
source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate. 7 But even
these (who?) those at the
gate, which are gatekeepers, or the so called ministry in that day "even these reel with wine and stagger from strong
drink;" (who?) "The priest and
the prophet have erred through strong wine, they are confused by the strong
wine, (they are confused by the stimulation of revelation) they stagger and are gone astray through strong drink;
they err in vision, they stumble in pronouncing judgment. 8 And therefore, all tables have become
full of vomit, so that there is no place that is clean. 9 Whom will He
teach knowledge? And whom
will He make to understand the Message? Those who are babies, just
weaned from the milk and taken from the breasts? Is that what He thinks we
are? 10 For it is His prophets
repeating over and over, precept upon precept, precept upon precept, rule upon
rule , rule upon rule, here a little and there a little. 11 No! But the Lord will teach the rebels
in a more humiliating way by men with stammering lips and a foreign tongue
will He speak to this people and teach them His lesson. 12 To these complainers the Lord has said,
"This is the True Rest, the way to true comfort and happiness that you
shall give to the weary, and this is the True
refreshing. yet they
would not listen to His teaching,
13 Therefore, the Word of the Lord will become to them, merely monotonous repeatings
of precept upon precept, precept upon precept; rule upon rule, rule upon rule;
here a little and there a little; that they may go, and fall backwards, and be broken,
and snared, and taken captive.
And that is the final
state of these people that are falling away, because they loved not the truth.
You've got to love it.
Notice they shall fall
backwards, and remember in Moses day they wanted to go back to the fleshpots of
Jesus said in Matthew
Notice
he allows the cares of this life to come in and take over. The Word get's squeezed out from your preeminence, and the cares of
this life become the preeminent thing in your life, and then you die off from
bearing any fruit in your life.
It's
like placing a tourniquet around an arm or leg and as you tighten it, the blood
stops going to that limb, and before too long that limb will begin to first
weaken, then turn color and begin to rot, and then it will die, and must be
amputated. And if it is amputated, it
will never bear fruit, you can never use it again. That is what the cares of
this world will do to your soul.
It
doesn't happen immediately, but slowly the life goes out of the Word and then
you find no fruit to show in your life because of the Word.
23 But he that received seed into the
good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and
bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Now, let's continue, the
next verse says they will be 2 "Speaking lies in hypocrisy"; (in other words, they
know better but they go ahead and teach their error anyway.) and when you tell
a lie over and over again you begin to believe it yourself. And your conscience
becomes seared, and you no longer recognize what is true and what is error.
Your discernment is gone.. "having their
conscience seared with a hot iron"; (now,
this is figurative language here only. It does not say that they literally take
a hot iron and seer their conscience but that is an expression, meaning their
conscience is so fired, they wouldn't be able to distinguish right from wrong.) 3 "Forbidding to marry",(the Catholic priest is
one example of that) and
commanding to abstain from meats,
Now, you might want to place that in the Catholic church as
well, but that is right in this Message) which God
hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know
the truth. and if you believe and know
the truth you won't fall for such as that. 4 For every
creature of God is good, and nothing to be
refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 5 For
it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
Now, we have just read some of the ways the Bible teaches us
that men will depart from The Faith.
By taking on doctrines of man you have to cast off the Doctrine of Christ.
And then Paul tells us in 2 Thessalonians 2: 3 Let
no man deceive you by any
means: for that day shall not
come except there be a falling away first, and that man of sin be
revealed, the son of perdition.
Notice, what day can not come until there's a
falling away first? He
said in verse 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled,
neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of
Christ is at hand.
So one of the earmarks that the Day of Christ is at hand is
there has to come a falling away from The Faith.
And the falling away is not all of a sudden they are gone, but it is a little
here and a little there. And then one day you realize that they're just gone,
plumb gone from The Faith. But it
took in most cases years for this to fully transpire.
You say, how do you know that ?
Because Jesus told of two other s where the same seed of the Word was sown, and
one was sown onto the side of the road, and quickly Satan took it out of their
minds. It never had time to settle into their heart, because these had no
understanding at all and the seed just sort of blew away. Then he mentions seed
that was sown onto stony grown, but when the sun came up, they had no where to
plant any roots, and the seed died off before anything could come of it.
But the seed that was received yet that person allowed the
cares of this life to have the preeminence in their life,
the Word got choked out, because there was no room for it. And this falling
away comes because they received not a love for The Faith. Christ the Word was
no preeminence.
God tells us in verse 10-11 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in
them that perish; because they received not the love of the Truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them
strong delusion, that they should believe
the lie. That they might be damned who believed not the Truth, but had
pleasure in un-right-wise-ness.
And then they actually end up taking pleasure in a wrong
understanding of the Word.
Now, let's look a little more in depth at this falling away.
Brother Branham said in his sermon, God's Only
provided Place of Worship on
Paragraph 202,
Matthew 24: 8-13 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they
deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated
of all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then shall many be offended,
and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
Why
against organized religion 62-1111E P:111 I Timothy
4 said, the Holy
Spirit speaking, "In the
last days they will depart from the faith and give heed to seducing spirits."
It also said, the Holy Spirit spoke that in the last days they'd be heady,
high-minded, hateful: "Bless God, you
belong to us, or you don't have your name on our book, you're lost." Hateful, unclean
birds...
Notice God's Word says, 10 And
then shall many be
offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate
one another.
The word
offended
was translated from the Greek Word skandalizo which
means to cause a person to begin to distrust and desert one that he ought
to trust and obey; to cause to fall away.
11 And many false
prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because
iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall
endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
John 6: 63-7:1 esp
(6:66) 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth
nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 64 But there are some of
you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed
not, and who should betray him. 65 And
he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can
come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. 66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no
more with him.
I think it is
interesting that John 6:66 which is 666 says, "From that time many
of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him."
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then
Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou
hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure
that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. 70 Jesus
answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of
you is a devil? 71 He spake
of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was
that should betray him, being one of the twelve. 7:1 After
these things Jesus walked in
Notice Peter said to whom shall we go, not to where
shall we go. You see, we as sons of God are steward of
Life, eternal life, and that Life is not placed in places, but in sons of God. Some
people think their church is where it's happening, and perhaps at one time God
was moving in that church by His spirit anointing a vessel that was yielded,
but when he takes that vessel off the scene, unless another yielded vessel
raises up that has that same God-Life in it, that church will sink and die.
Because Brother Branham preached a
sermon called God's provided place of worship and it was not in a church, or a
certain place, he said it was in Christ. And if Christ is in a vessel, then
that church will prosper in the thins of God, but when
God removes that vessel, it will die like every organized religion has died. and then the men of the church will try to restore that Life
into the church and they will play tapes to try to bring it back or keep the
life going.
But that is not how God works,
He works through men, men who are alive. Who are filled with his Spirit, so
they can reflect His Life, His God-Life to the church and impart that same life
to others. But you will not find that life in men who have surrendered to the
cares of this life. No, those men are either dying or they are dead. And death
can not impart life. It takes Life to impart life.
Hebrews 3:7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To
day if ye will hear his voice, 8 Harden not your hearts, as in the
provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9 When
your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. 10 Wherefore
I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway
err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. 11 So I sware in my
wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.) 12 Take heed, brethren, lest
there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living
God. 13 But exhort one another daily, while it is
called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the
deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if
we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast
unto the end; 15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his
voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. 16 For some,
when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as
well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed
with faith in them that heard it.
Hebrews 10:35-39 Cast not away therefore
your confidence,(parrhesia) which has
great recompense of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have
done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and
He that shall come will come, and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by
faith: but if any man draw back, My soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are
not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the
saving of the soul.
Hebrews 12: 25 See that ye refuse not Him that speaketh.
For if they escaped not who refused Him that Spoke on earth, much more shall
not we escape, if we turn away from Him Who speaketh from Heaven. Your very life depends
on hearing one anointed with God-Life.
Acts
2 Peter 3: 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things
before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked,
fall from your own steadfastness.
1 John 3: 11-12 For this is the message that ye heard from the
beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked
( poneros) one, and slew his
brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil [wicked] ( same word poneros) and
his brothers righteous.
2 Timothy 3:1-9 This know also, that in the last days perilous times
shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves,
covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers,
false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors,
heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than
lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but
denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For
of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women
laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and
never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now
as Jannes and Jambres
withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds,
reprobate concerning the faith. 9 But they shall proceed no further: for their
folly shall be manifest unto all men, as
theirs also was. 10 But thou hast fully
known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity,
patience,
2 Timothy 4: 3 For the time
will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own
lusts shall they heap to
themselves teachers, having itching ears. And they shall turn
away their ears from the Truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Hebrews 6: 4 For it is impossible for those who have been
once for all enlightened, and have tasted
of the heavenly Gift, and were
made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the Good Word of God,
and the powers of the world to come, if they shall deviate from the truth,
it is impossible for them to once again come to repentance ( which is a change of
the mind) seeing that they crucify to themselves the
Son of God afresh, or as brother Branham put it, they crucify themselves by rejecting This Word.
Hebrews
2 Peter 2: 1 But there were
false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers
among you, who privily shall bring I damnable
heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon them swift
destruction...15 which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following
the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the
wages of unrighteousness; 17 these are wells without water, clouds that are
carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved forever. 20 For if after they have escaped the pollution's of the world
through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled
therein, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not
to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn
from the Holy Commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened
unto them according to the True proverb, The dog is
turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her own wallowing
in the mire.
1 Timothy 6:3-8 If any man teach otherwise and consent
not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and
to the Doctrine which is according to Godliness; He is proud, knowing
nothing, but doting about questions and strifes
of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and
destitute of the Truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw
thyself. But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing
into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
2 Timothy 2:12-19 12 If we suffer,
we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
14 Of
these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words
to no profit, but to the subverting of the
hearers. 15 Study
to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth
not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun
profane and vain babblings: for they will
increase unto more ungodliness. 17 And
their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus
and Philetus; 18 Who
concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past
already; and overthrow the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless the foundation
of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord
knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth
the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Luke 9: 62 And Jesus said
unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is

Acts 7: 39 Whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust
Him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt saying
unto Aaron, make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought
us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is
become of him.
Punishment of renegades. this
next section we will look at the punishment for being a renegade, one who
departs from The Faith.

Jeremiah 17:5 Cursed be the man whose heart departeth from the Lord.
Ezekiel 3: 20 When a
righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay

Ezekiel 18: 24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and commiteth iniquity, and doth according to all the

John 15: 6 If a man abideth
not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered: and men gather them
into the fire, and they are burned.
Brother Branham said "Christ
is the Doctrine." And he
also said, any church
without doctrine is not a church at all. So a church must have doctrine and that is
what these men have turned away from.
And we already read where they will turn away from the
doctrine in 2 Timothy 4:1-4
I ) So what then is Doctrine?
John 7:14-18 14 Now about the
midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. 15 And the
Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters,
having never learned? 16 Jesus
answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his
that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will,
he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh
his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. It is instruction in righteousness, it is teaching, and it is
the Word of God. The word logos actually means
teaching or doctrine.
2 Timothy
Titus 2:1-15 But speak thou
the things which become sound doctrine: 2 That
the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. 3 The
aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness,
not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; 4 That they may teach the
young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 To be
discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that
the word of God be not blasphemed. 6 Young men likewise exhort to
be sober minded. 7 In
all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works:
in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8 Sound
speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be
ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. 9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own
masters, and to please them
well in all things; not answering again; 10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine
of God our Saviour in all things. 11 For the grace
of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly,
in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the
glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that
he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar
people, zealous of good works. 15 These things
speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
Deuteronomy 32: 1-2 1 Give ear, O ye
heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.

doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the
small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:
Acts 2: 42 And they
continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and
fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon
