Last night we examined Ephesians 5:14 where Paul said, “Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead and Christ shall give thee light;”

We examined the first part of this scripture and defined just who this person is that Paul calls "Thou that Sleepest."

We found that sleep is associated with night and thus darkness as we see in …

I THESSALONIANS 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as [do] others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

We also found that Paul identifies the spirit of slumber as a sort of drunkenness, which signifies a sort of stooper or unconsciousness of what is going on all around you. You've heard the reference made when someone is in deep sleep, "they're really out of it." In other words, they haven't a clue right now as to what is going on. Why? Because they are asleep.

The reason I bring this scripture to our attention is because the majority of people living today are so unaware of what is going on that they might as well be asleep, or their condition could best be describes as someone who is "Out of it, or out cold."

ISAIAH 60:1 ¶ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. 2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. 3And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

Who are these sleepers then that are spoken of by Paul? Everyone except a few who have been awakened. In the parable of the ten wise and ten foolish virgins, we find the Lord comes at an hour where gross darkness is upon the earth. All are sleeping when suddenly there is a midnight cry.

MATTHEW 25:1 ¶ Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were wise, and five [were] foolish. 3 They that [were] foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. 6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. 7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. 9 But the wise answered, saying, [Not so]; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Jesus tells us that two sets of virgins are awakened. No one else but these two different groups who are both virgins. One happens to be wise and have not only the Word of God, but they also have revelation on that Word. The other group has the same lamp, or the same word, but have no clue how to use it for they have no oil.

Now, we found that the state or nature of those who sleep through this midnight cry, are those who are in a state of utter darkness; a state wherein “darkness covers the earth, and gross darkness the people.” As we pointed out last night, These poor unawakened people, (sinners) have no knowledge of themselves, although they may have much knowledge of other things:

Because the knowledge of ourselves comes from the knowledge we receive in Knowing God. In Colossians 3:4 When Christ, [who is] our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. This tells us that When Christ Manifests in His true character we shall do the same. Again we see in 1 John 3: 1-2 the same thing. 1b ¶ therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.The world can never know themselves because they can never know Him. If you do not see the correct understanding of the Godhead, you will never really know who you are, you can't know who you are. 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

It is the seeing Him as He really is that allows us to see who we are.

Now that we understand who this is that Paul admonishes to awake, and who it is that will never awake, let's move on to the next thought. “Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise up from those who are among the dead ”

In other words, don't stay there in your stupor. Don't just lie there. I admit that he told us all that is left for the bride is to lay in the presence of the sun to ripen. Yes, he did say to lay in the presence of the Son, But if you lay in the presence of the Son to ripen and fall asleep, you are going to get burned. “Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise up from those who are among the dead ” Notice, he never said, awake thou that sleepest and continue to lay there. He said, awake and get up, arise and get out from among the dead, those who are still asleep.

In I CORINTHIANS 15:34 Paul said, Awake to righteousness, and sin not (and disbelieve no longer); for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak [this] to your shame.

Notice Paul tells us we have a purpose in being awakened, and that is we are to awaken to righteousness. Awaken to right-wise-ness. Awaken to the Light.

ROMANS 13:11 ¶ And that, knowing the time, that now [it is] high time to awake out of sleep: for now [is] our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].

David said, PSALMS 17:15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

Notice the words of ISAIAH 60:1 ¶ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

"Arise and shine", that sounds like a wakeup call. ¶ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. 2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. 3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

There is the answer, that is why we are to awaken, and get up. It is that the Lord might show forth His glory in us.

Now, if we look closer at this word arise, it is a command to come forth. This is a resurrection command, the same command Jesus gave to Lazarus when He called him forth from among the dead. A person that only wants to lay in bed will never accomplish anything, and in fact will have a tendency to be poor all his life.

PROVERBS 6:9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? 10 [Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: 11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Notice in the Book of MALACHI 4:2 we find the Son of Righteousness arise first and then goes forth to do. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

“Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead and Christ shall give thee light;”

Notice there are three things Paul speaks of here.

#1) Awake Thou that sleepest. First of all we have defined who it is that sleeps. They are those who are spiritually dead. Those whose spiritual senses are lacking. Thos who can not exercise there spiritual senses. They have eyes, yet they can not see, they have ears and yet they do not hear, they have feeling and ye they can not feel the warming of the spirit of God, they have a tongue and yet they can not taste and see that the Lord is good. These are those who ony dream they are eating and yet when they wake up to everlasting condemnation will only know to well they did not eat, nor did they drink but they only imagined it taking place, but they never really did eat nor drink.

ISAIAH 29:8 It shall even be as when an hungry [man] dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, [he is] faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion. (the Elect)

FUTURE HOME 64-0802 52-3 the daughter of Zion,... (Remember that's always the Bride. See?)

So we see that those who sleep only dream that they are eating and only dream that they drink but when they shall awake at the 2^nd resurrection and face the white throne judgment they will come to know that it was only a dream to them and they did not eat and they did not drink, and thus they were not filled.

#2) Awake Thou that Sleepest. There is a call to Awake, a call to come forth from among the dead, a call to come out from among a the spiritually dead, those who sleep. We have studied who that group of sleeping people are and have found that only the wise and foolish virgins awoke and arose when that call came forth to come out to meet him. To come out from among them and I will be not only God to you, but your Father as well.

II CORINTHIANS 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in [them]; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Now, God is God to all whether they be angels or man, and yet it is clear here that only those who have heard this cry, the midnight cry to come out from among the dead, the cry to come out from among those who are sleep, only they who hear is He their God and only they who come out will be the true sons and daughters of God.

MARK 12:27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err. How can those who are dead worship, they can't worship, their senses are dead. And by definition God is an object, And then if they can not worship they are dead, and God is not God to them.

He says come out my children, come out to your Father. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

ISAIAH 60:1 ¶ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. ( While the world is in darkness, I have come to shine forth my doxa in you, II THESSALONIANS 1:10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed ) in that day.)

#3) Therefore we come to the main point Paul is making here, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead and Christ shall give thee light;” Point number three is that the whole purpose of awakening from among those who are asleep is to receive the Light,

and this Light contains the Life of God.

JOHN 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 ¶ And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

JOHN 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

JOHN 12:35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

Now, light is energy, and the the light gives energy to the believer.

I CORINTHIANS 12:6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

HEBREWS 4:12 For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Just like tonight at this light here and that light, he has give that little sling across the--the road over yonder, run--run that wire out there. That's the material. Well now, when the energy goes into that wire, it'll produce just exactly like it was in here. Now, I believe that a lot of times when the wiring up of God's spiritual body on earth... We must...?... I say that reverently to the electrician. That's... It's... The plumbing's all right, but we can't save them by water. You know that's right. And that's a good thing for a Baptist to say. But that's true. That's true as...

E-22 If the Body is correctly wired up, and the Father in heaven turns the big master switch on, something's going to rise up. That's right. That's if the Body is... if the building is properly wired. And if it's properly taught and every fiber of our body, being lost in Christ and to His Word alone... Now if you got theology, if you got some doctrine, if you got some superstition, you got some unbelief, you got something that stops up somewhere, then that energy can never pull through you. But when you got to a place where you're perfectly wired, and the Master Electrician has okayed it by sealing it with the Holy Spirit, the only thing is just turn on the switch then, and there'll be a light show, and that's right.

E-25 What did Christ redeem us for? Did you ever thing what He redeemed us for? Why didn't He just make you the atonement and say now, "There's no need of giving them deep powers. There's no need in making this man a son of God. There's no need in doing that. I will just ask him to believe it and write his name in the Book of heaven and that'll settle it." But He gave us these redeemed blessings that we might operate the work of God, by the energy of the Holy Spirit. In Saint John 15, He said, "I am the Vine, and ye are the branches." Do you know that the vine can't bear fruit, although the fruit is in the vine? But the fruit cannot be brought forth from a vine. It has to have the branch to bear the fruit. And you are the branches. Now, the vine with all of its energy cannot produce anything unless the br--branch is willing to receive the energy.

And if you're not telling the truth about it, it'll show that you're lying, for there's a pressure on the light that goes through your nerves, the energy, which is the soul of man that wasn't made in the beginning to lie, but to be truthful. Science has made that to a patent or place. That same thing upon truth... Why, this saint of God, dying, who'd been run from her own home, because of her belief in God... And He looked out upon the harvest and said, "You pray the Lord of the harvest, that He will send laborers into His harvest, because the harvest is ripe and laborers are few." In other words, "You ask Me to do what I know that's got--ought to be done." They--He could not do it until they asked Him to do it.

He was going along with a brown pin striped suit on, tipping his hat like this, to people, in the vision. It was over. God had said so. God had said so. The things that I do shall you also, for I go unto My Father; more than this will you do." See it? Not man, Christ, living. We're the branches, He's the Vine. He just sends forth the energy and we yield ourself, and He works the works of God through you. You get it?

INFALLIBLE.PROOF.OF.RESURRECTION_ STURGIS.MI MONDAY_ 57-0114 E-82 This is either the truth or it is an error. And if God promised in this Bible that Jesus Christ was the same yesterday, today, and forever, that's either the truth or it is not. And I believe that He ascended on high. His corporal body sets in the Presence of God the Father tonight, at the right hand of the majesty of God. And the Holy Spirit, which was in Christ, is in the church. And He is the vine, the energy Giver, and you are the branches. He has no other mouth tonight on earth but yours, no eyes but yours. You are the branches. The vine doesn't bear fruit. The branch bears fruit. The vine only gives the energy. Is that right?

GOD.KEEPS.HIS.WORD 57-011 E-89 And when He went away, His works was to be carried on in His church until He returned. Is that right? He said, "We are the vine... We are the branches; He is the Vine." Is that right? Saint John 15th chapter: "I am the Vine; ye are the branches." And every branch that bringeth forth fruit is pruned, and fixed up, and purged so it'll bring more. But the branch that doesn't bear fruit is plucked off. Now, the branches is the one that bears fruit, not the vine. So we, the church, is left as the branches. So your eyes and my eyes is the only eyes that God has on the earth. Your lips and my lips is His--is His branch. He energizes it to bring forth fruit. And our ears is His ears. Our hands to do good is His hands. Our feet are His feet to carry us to church and to do good. "Blessed are the feet that bring--beareth good tidings." And all--all such. We are His vine. And He just pours His energy into us.

GOD KEEPS HIS WORD 57-0115 E-90 Now, there's five gifts that's set into the church: apostles, prophets, teachers, evangelists, pastors. That's the branches. And God pours His energy into that, some of them to preach, some of them to be evangelists, some to be pastors, teachers, seer. And apostles are missionaries, either one, it's both the same, same word. Now, if He's raised from the dead, and He's here tonight, then why would... What would He do if He stood here? He would look upon you; He'd know you. He'd know you just as He knew Peter, called his name, and He knows others. He'd know what you had need of in your heart, like He did the woman at the well. He told her--He talked to her a few minutes till He found her trouble, said, "Go, get your husband." She said, "I don't have any husband." Said, "You got five." She said, "Sir, I perceive that You're a prophet. We know when the Messiah cometh, He will do these things. (That right? Saint John 4.) But Who are You?' Said, "I'm He." She run in and said, "Isn't this the Messiah? Isn't this the very sign of the Messiah?"

WE.WOULD.SEE.JESUS_ PHOENIX.AZ TUESDAY_ 57-0226 E-56 Now, what is the Spirit of God? It's something that lives in you and moves through you. Now, what did Jesus say? Ye a... "I am (the what?) Vine; ye are (the what?) [Congregation answers, "Branches"--Ed.] The vine doesn't bear fruit, does it? No, sir. What bears fruit? All branches .When He was here, He was a Branch too, from God. God was in Him. But now, God's in us, and He's the Vine and we're... What does the vine do? It furnishes energy to the branches. Is that right? And the branches bears the fruit. Then His hands... Our hands are His hands. Our eyes are His eyes. Our life is His life. He puts His Life in us. We live the life that He would live if He was here on earth in a physical form, while the body is sitting at the right hand of God making intercessions for us all the time. Oh, isn't that beautiful? That just knocks all the kinks out of unbelief, to me. It just makes it so real.

GREATER.THAN.SOLOMON.IS.HERE_ PHOENIX.AZ THURSDAY_ 57-0228 E-67 Now, the woman, it was told by her, and now as you as a man. If Christ will tell me something... Now, I don't know, you might be here for somebody else, and you might be here for financial, domestics; I--I don't know. You may be sick. I can't tell you. You know I don't know you. But if He will tell me what you're here to see Him for, then I'll be acting as the branch to Him, the Vine. I have no energy of my own. If I don't know you, well that settles it. That--that lets the human part out. But if He will energize, and will let me know what you're here for, then you'll have to admit that it's Him. Then you'll believe. Well may He let me know something that's happened in your life. Then you know whether that's the truth or not.

But He wants us to yield what we got to Him as a branch, and He's the Vine that shoves forth the energy. The vine doesn't bear fruit, does it? The branch bears fruit. He said, "I am the Vine; ye are the branches." Now, we are to bear the fruit of His ministry until He comes. The Bible said, Jesus did, "A little while and the world will see Me no more. (That's when He physical left; they'd never know it no more; now, that's the world.) The world will see Me no more for all (it's gone.); yet ye shall see Me. ('Ye,' that's the believer.) For I'll be with You (How long?) to the end of the world." Is that right? "I'll be with you, even in you to the end of the world." Now, He's the same yesterday, today, and forever. Let us be reverent and pray. Now...

The vine cannot bear fruit; it's the branches that bears fruit, as it's energized from the vine. And Christ is our energy. But your lips is His lips when you're energized. He does all kinds of works to confirm His Word through human instrumentality. That's exactly what He did.

E-68 That's the reason He could smile here. Jesus had carried out every Word of it. That's it. He'd carried out just exactly to the Word, now, because He was that perfect Son. And He is the same, and He died to become the Vine, that we might become the branch, that He can energize us with His Life to make the same Life that He had, living in us. Then we'll do the same thing. Jesus said in Saint John 14:12, "He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also." Now, we watch what He done. See, we haven't time tonight, but we'll take it up later, and see what His works was: maybe tomorrow night. Then, see if He will perform that same works. If He does, He remains the same. Now, then God would be pleased with that.
