The Teaching Ministry of the Holy Spirit
November 18th,
2001
Ephesians 1:
13-20: In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of
truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were
sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our
inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise
of his glory. 15 ¶ Wherefore I also,
after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, 16
Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; 17 That
the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the
spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your
understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his
calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19
And what [is] the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe,
according to the working of his mighty power, 20 Which he wrought in Christ,
when he raised him from the dead, and set [him] at his own right hand in the
heavenly [places], 21Far above all principality, and power, and might, and
dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in
that which is to come: 22 And hath
put all [things] under his feet, and gave him [to be] the head over all
[things] to the church, 23 Which is
his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. Let's pray…
Notice Paul said, "that the eyes of your heart (your understanding) may be enlightened, that you might know. That's
the ministry of the Holy Spirit today as in all times is to make you to know.
From the message ADOPTION 60-0522E 181 brother Branham quoted
this same scripture and said, Wherefore I also,
after I heard of your faith... (I heard that
you believed this stuff; I heard that you really believed in predestination,
Eternal Life, and salvation, and so forth)... in
the Lord Jesus, and love unto all... saints, Cease not to give thanks to you,
making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in...
knowledge of him:... (Just keep revealing
Himself to you all the time, growing from grace unto grace, from power unto
power, glory unto glory. Not fall back; but from glory unto glory, keep moving
on. I'll keep praying for you.) The eyes of your
understanding...
182 Umm. You know, and the Bible said you were blind and didn't
know it. But here Paul said, "I'm going to pray that your eyes of
understanding..." You understand with your heart. That's what he's
talking about. You look with your eye, but you see with your heart.
You know that. All right. "That the God of glory..." Let's
see, that--the 18th verse. The eyes of your understanding being
enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of the calling, and what the
riches of... glory of his in--inheritance in the saints, And what is the
exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward... (Whew. They
say the power's gone? The--the power hasn't even arrived yet.)... who believed,
according to the working of his mighty power, "You who
have believed to the working of His mighty power, I just pray that God will
just pour out His power upon you." See? Which he wrought
in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand
in... heavenly places, Far above... principalities... powers... might...
dominion, and that every name that is named,... Oh. For... No,
I better not. We could sure take the rest the night on that. ... every name that is
named, not only in this world, but that in the world to come:
184
What is every. What's every name
of, every person will bear the Name of what? [Congregation says
"Jesus."--Ed.] The whole heaven's named Jesus. The whole church is
named Jesus. Everything is named Jesus, for it's the only Name that God ever
had. He's called Jehovah, Jehovah-jireh, the Lord's provided Sacrifice;
Jehovah-rapha, the Lord that healeth thee; Jehovah, the Lord's banner,
Manasses; and Jehovah, di--different Jehovahs. He's called the Morning Star.
He's called Father: He's called Son; He's called Holy Ghost. He's called Alpha;
He's called Omega. He's called Beginning; He's called the Ending. He's called
the Branch. Oh, He's called--He's just called all kinds of titles, but He
had one Name. That's what Matthew was talking about when he said, "Go
ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name (not in names),
in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost." Father's not a name;
Son's not a name; Holy Ghost is not a name. It's a title to a Name. It's a name
of three attributes that belongs to one God. What was His Name? The Angel said,
"Thou shall call His Name [Congregation says, 'Jesus.'] for He shall save
His people from their sin." That's the reason they all baptized that way
in the Bible. That's how Saint Augustine baptized the King of England,
about--about a hundred and fifty, two hundred years after the death of Christ,
in the Name of Jesus Christ. All right.
185
Far above... principalities... powers... might... dominion,
that--that every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that
which is to come: And has put all things under his feet, and has given him to
be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body,... Now, if my
body has the power over all things, then what my body is, is what I am. Is that
right? That's what I am; that's what you know me as. Is that right? Well, then,
all that God was, He poured into Jesus, for He was the Fullness of the Godhead
bodily. Is that right? And all that Jesus was, He poured into the church.
"These things that I do, shall you do all things--also. Even greater than
this shall you do, for I go to the Father." Which is his body,
the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
Now, this morning I would
like to continue with Who is this Melchisedec, this is number 90 in our series
and we will look at paragraph number 90 where brother Branham begins to speak
of Moses and Elijah and Samuel. And I want to focus our thoughts on one
particular attribute of the men of God, these prophets that Brother Branham is
speaking of because most people think of a Prophet only in terms of one who
foretells the future, but they fail to recognize these are the men God has
placed here to declare the Message, the teaching or doctrine of God. But what
we are looking at is the ministry of the Holy Spirit through men, and the main
purpose of the visitation of the Holy Spirit to man is to teach man.
SEVENTY WEEKS OF
DANIEL 61-0806 67 But you remember in Daniel 12 He said, "The wise
shall understand in this last days"? It's been given to him. The
Spirit of wisdom comes into the church to make known to the church by the
revelation of the Holy Ghost--bringing the church in and revealing what day
that we're living in. Just the same as Gabriel come to--to Daniel, the Holy
Spirit comes to the church in the last days to reveal these great, deep, secret
things. Do you understand now?
JOHN 16:13 Howbeit when he,
the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall
not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and
he will shew you things to come.
I JOHN 2:27 But the anointing
which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man
teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth,
and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
QUESTIONS AND
ANSWERS 54-0103E 109-21 Someone said not long ago, said, "Why, Brother Branham, we
don't need anybody to teach us. When the Holy Ghost comes, we don't need
anybody to teach." Said, "The Bible says you do not--not need
teaching." I said, "Then why did the same Holy Spirit set in the church
teachers?" See, see? He set the church in order. He was. We got to have
teachers. That's right. But you oughtn't to have anyone... Don't have to teach
you saying, "Thou shalt not commit adultery; thou shalt not sware, and
take..." You already know that. Your very conscience of the Holy Spirit
tells you it's wrong to do that. But now, as far as Scriptural teaching, it
takes a Holy Ghost anointed. That's right. And God has set the church in order
by apostles and prophets, and gifts of healing, and miracles, and so forth. He
set the church in order and put the teachers and so forth in there to guide and
direct His church.
Now in getting to the
Message this morning concerning the things brother Branham has to tell us in
the message WHO IS THIS MELCHISEDEC 65-0221E
88 All right, let's take a couple of eagles and look at them for a
few minutes. There was a man named Moses. Everyone knows that a prophet's
called the eagle in the Bible. There was a prophet named Moses. And one
day God called Him, and wouldn't let him go over the land, and he died on a
rock. The Angels took him away and buried him. There was another man, an
eagle, didn't even have to die. He just walked across Jordan, and God sent
a chariot down and: "This robe of flesh he dropped and risen and caught
the everlasting prize." Eight hundred years later, eight hundred years
later on Mount Transfiguration here stood those two men. Moses' body had been
rotten for hundreds of years, but here he was in such a form till even Peter,
James, and John recognized him. Amen. "If this earthly tabernacle be
dissolved..." If you're an attribute of God expressed here on earth,
you've got a body waiting after you leave this world. There they were
standing on Mount Transfiguration in their theophany, for they were prophets to
whom the Word came to.
Notice that Brother Branham
is referring to Moses and Elijah. Now,
most people think what Moses and Elijah had in common was that as Prophets of
God they were known for the miracles that accompanied their ministries. But
these men had a whole lot more than just miracles in their ministries. The
miracles were only God making known His Presence among the people and
vindicating that the man had the Message from God. These men came with a
Message, Words that God placed in their mouths. They had a message and they
were sent to teach the people. They came to teach, to bring the doctrine of God
to the people for the word doctrine means teaching, so these men came with the
doctrine of God.
DEUTERONOMY 18:15 ¶ The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a
Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye
shall hearken; 16 According to all
that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly,
saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see
this great fire any more, that I die not. 17 And the LORD said unto me, They
have well [spoken that] which they have spoken. 18 I will raise them up a
Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in
his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. 19
And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever will not hearken unto my words
which he shall speak in my name, I will require [it] of him. 20 But the
prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not
commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even
that prophet shall die. 21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know
the word which the LORD hath not spoken? 22 When a prophet speaketh in the name
of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that [is] the thing
which the LORD hath not spoken, [but] the prophet hath spoken it
presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
The Apostle Paul told us at
the end time God would do so again, and He would raise a prophet from the
people and put his Words in that man's mouth, for one purpose and that is to
teach and instruct the people.
ACTS 3:19 Repent ye
therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times
of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before
was preached unto you: 21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution
of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets
since the world began. 22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet
shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him
shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. 23 And it shall
come to pass, [that] every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be
destroyed from among the people. 24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and
those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of
these days.
And remember, brother
Branham taught us that hearing is understanding.
HEAR RECOGNIZE
ACT ON WORD 60-0221 30 First, faith
cometh by hearing, hearing of the Word of God. Then the believer hears It,
recognizes It, and acts on It. The carnal man will hear It, the sound of It,
but never... "Hear" means to "understand" It. Look
at, is looking at something; but to see it, is to "understand" it.
"Except a man be born again, he cannot see or understand the Kingdom of
God."
QUEEN OF SHEBA
61-0119E E-32 He knowed God was
able to keep that which He had performed. And we're supposed to be children of
Abraham. We're children of Abraham if we have the faith of Abraham. Everything
else but God's Word is a lie. Look what God said. We look at the unseen. You
look what your mortal eyes don't see. You don't see with your eyes anyhow. You
only look with your eyes; you see with your heart. You look right at it,
say, "I don't see it"; you mean you don't understand it. Your
seeing is your understanding, so you understand with your heart.
MARK OF THE
BEAST 61-0217 E-73 But if you hear
the trumpet... See, hearing, faith cometh by what? Hearing. Now, not just
listen with your ear, but if you hear that means you understand it, you
accept it. "I hear you; I believe it." See? It's hearing. Stephen
said, "You stiff-necked, uncircumcised in the heart and ears..." See,
uncircumcised... They could hear it with the ears but uncircumcised, they
couldn't believe it. See? Uncircumcised in the heart and ears, understand
it. "Oh, it's all a mystery to me, like Cain. Take it or leave it. I
joined church, that's as good as I can do." All right, Cain. You'll mark
with the beast and go right on off in your denomination. But you can come to
Christ and be sealed by the Holy Ghost. You can take your choice. Now, watch.
You hear the Gospel trump... What is the Gospel trumpet? The good news, the
Holy Ghost is here. How do you know it is? Watch It work; see what It does.
It's the good news.
Notice as Brother Branham continues,
He identifies yet another prophet, and that is Samuel, just like Paul here
speaks of Moses and then Samuel identifying the nature of that man and his
ministry with these three prophets, Moses, Elijah and Samuel.
Who is this
Melchisedec 90 Also let us notice another prophet one time by the name of
Samuel. He was a great man. He'd taught Israel, (Notice here he places the
emphasis on Samuel as a teacher. For that is what he was. He did not come
working great miracles like Moses and Elijah, but he came in the name of the
Lord with a Message to teach the people to have a correct relationship with
God, and how to worship Him correctly.)
Even Jesus told us that we
must be taught, or we will never come to God.
JOHN 6:45 It is written in
the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that
hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
See, How are you going to
learn without hearing first, then you've got to recognize it which means it
makes sense to you, you understand the what it is saying, and then you Act upon
it. Hearing, Recognizing and then Acting.
EXPECTATION 55-1001
E-24 Now, God is not known by intellectual faith.
God is known by the experience of new birth, only alone. Jesus said, "Except
a man be born again of the Spirit of God, he cannot even see the Kingdom of God."
Now, any Bible scholar here knows that the word "see" there does not
mean "look with your eye." It means "understand." You--you
say, "I... Looking at something or other, say, "I just don't see
it." You mean; you don't understand it; you're looking right at it. You
look with your eyes, but understand with your heart. That's right. You can't
understand it. And no man can know nothing of God, until first you're born of
the Spirit of God. The Bible said, "No man can call Jesus, Christ."
Only by the Holy Spirit is the only thing that... You can say, "Well, I
believe He's the Son of God." If you haven't been born again, you're
taking somebody's word for it. You say, "The Bible said so." That's right;
the Bible's right, but what about you? You say, "The preacher said
so." The preacher's right, but what about you? "Mother said so."
Mother's right, but what about you? It's a personal experience of your own that
you've got to be born again or you'll never understand God.
I CORINTHIANS 2:6 ¶ Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are
perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world,
that come to nought: 7 But we speak
the wisdom of God in a mystery, [even] the hidden [wisdom], which God ordained
before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world
knew: for had they known [it], they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not
seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things
which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed [them]
unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep
things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of
man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit
of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit
which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of
God. 13 Which things also we speak, not
in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth;
comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not
the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can
he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is
spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who
hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind
of Christ.
JOHN 10:32 Jesus answered
them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those
works do ye stone me? 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone
thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself
God. 34 Jesus answered them, Is it
not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto
whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of
him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou
blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? 37If I do not the works of my
Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the
works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father [is] in me, and I in him.
39 ¶
Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their
hand,
Jesus was a teacher and that
is the role that was most pronounced in His short 3-1/2 year ministry. I was
talking to a man this week who has been the president of his church
denomination several times and he recently left his church to go to a church
that taught deeper things from the Word of God. He said, I do not want to be
critical of the man who has been my pastor all these years, but he is just so
shallow, and he doesn't teach any depth. There's just nothing to help you to
dig deeper. Then he said a remarkable statement coming from a man who has been
taught so little. He said, "Just think of the impact Jesus teaching had on
the people. He taught so much in just 3 short years." And I thought, this man sees things that
even people in this message fail to see. Jesus was above all the Lamb of God,
but His role as a teacher had more impact than any other role He played. He was
sent by God not to perform miracles, but to teach, and that is the key role of
every prophet of God, to teach the people.
JOHN 3:1 ¶ There was a man of the Pharisees, named
Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said
unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can
do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
Even the Apostle Paul
considered Himself above all things to be a teacher. I TIMOTHY 2:7Whereunto I am ordained
a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, [and] lie not;) a
teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
II TIMOTHY 1:11Whereunto I am
appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
Even brother Branham considered
the gift to tewach the far greater gift in comparison to healing.
WHY ARE WE NOT A
DENOMINATION? 58-0927 59
Now, we've got gifts of healing working. Oh, it's going good. Well,
brother, there's other gifts. That's just one of them. That's just a little
minor thing. Why, here's a far greater gift right here. Which would be the
best, the gift of the Holy Ghost of wisdom to put the Word of God together and
to show the church where we're standing, than just to get somebody healed? We
all want to be well; but I'd rather have my soul well, than my body well
anytime. Oh, my.
A few years ago brother
Vayle took me aside in his living room and said, "Brian,
there are people who are saying when I'm gone there will be no more teaching,
but as long as the Holy Spirit is in the earth there will still be teaching,
for the Holy Spirit is the teacher."
And brother Branham said the
same thing.
VOICE OF THE
SIGN 64-0313 E-3 And now, let the great Teacher of the Word, the Holy
Spirit, come upon us tonight and reveal Himself to us, and make Himself
known unto us by the evidence of His resurrection.
Didn't Jesus tell us that
when the Holy Ghost would come, He will lead us into all truth? And did not the
Apostle John tell us God gives us a special anointing of the Spirit to know all
truth.
UNWELCOMED
CHRIST 55-1002 E-1 Now, we realize that this Book has
been written in such a way that You've hid It from all the scholars, the wise
and prudent. And You said You would reveal It to babes such as would learn.
Now, we're willing to learn tonight; that's why we're here. And we're here
expecting the great Teacher to come and teach us tonight, the things that we
should know, the Holy Spirit of God.
COME LET US
REASON TOGETHER 55-1004 E-36 Our Heavenly Father, we thank
Thee for Thy Word. Thy Word is truth. And now, help us, Lord, as we come
tonight to understand. You're the great Teacher; now, help us to understand. We
pray in Jesus' Name. Amen.
Calling Jesus on
The Scene 64-0319 E-51 But when a man
comes in and tell you he has power to heal you, he's lying. God alone can heal.
"I'm the Lord thy God, Who heals all thy diseases." He'll not share
His glory with anybody. There's no man has power to heal. But there's men who
has gifts to manifest God. Your pastor, he can take God... By a gift of a
teacher, he can explain the Word so you're bound to see it. If you got any eyes
to see with, you'll see it. There's another one, maybe, some other gift. But
there's always a gift that manifests the presence of God. And through there
you, yourself, have to believe it.
Now, let's take the rest of
the time this morning and read from the New Testament pertaining to the
ministry of Jesus and I want you to se the main perception of the people was
Jesus as a teacher and they hated him for it, because He did not teach it the
way they were used to hearing it.
MATTHEW 5:1 ¶ And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a
mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his
mouth, and taught them, saying,
MATTHEW 5:19 Whosoever
therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so,
he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do
and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
MATTHEW 7:28 And it came to
pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his
doctrine: 29 For he taught them as [one] having authority, and not as the
scribes.
MATTHEW 11:1 ¶ And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an
end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to
preach in their cities.
MATTHEW 13:54 And when he was come into his own country,
he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and
said, Whence hath this [man] this wisdom, and [these] mighty works? 55 Is not
this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren,
James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? 56
And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this [man]
all these things?
MATTHEW 22:33 And when the
multitude heard [this], they were astonished at his doctrine.
MATTHEW 28:19 Go ye therefore,
and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I
have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the
world. Amen.
MARK 1:21 And they went
into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the
synagogue, and taught. 22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he
taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
MARK 1:27 And they were all
amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is
this? what new doctrine [is] this? for with authority commandeth he even the
unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
MARK 2:13 ¶ And he went forth again by the sea side; and
all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.
MARK 4:1 ¶ And he began again to teach by the sea side:
and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a
ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land. 2
And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,
MARK 6:1 ¶ And he went out from thence, and came into
his own country; and his disciples follow him. 2 And when the sabbath day was
come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing [him] were
astonished, saying, From whence hath this [man] these things? and what wisdom
[is] this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by
his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James,
and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And
they were offended at him. 4 But Jesus
said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and
among his own kin, and in his own house. 5 And he could there do no mighty
work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed [them]. 6 And
he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages,
teaching.
MARK 6:34 And Jesus, when he
came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they
were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
MARK 10:1 ¶ And he arose from thence, and cometh into
the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto
him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again.
MARK 11:17 And he taught,
saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations
the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves. 18 And the scribes
and chief priests heard [it], and sought how they might destroy him: for they
feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.
MARK 12:28 ¶ And one of the
scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he
had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? 29
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments [is], Hear, O Israel;
The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all
thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy
strength: this [is] the first commandment. 31 And the second [is] like,
[namely] this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other
commandment greater than these. 32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master,
thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with
all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love [his] neighbour as
himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34 And when
Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from
the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him [any question]. 35
¶ And Jesus answered and said, while he
taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David? 37
David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he [then] his
son? And the common people heard him gladly. 38 And he said unto them in his
doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and [love]
salutations in the marketplaces, 39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and
the uppermost rooms at feasts: 40 Which
devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall
receive greater damnation.
LUKE 4:15 And he taught in their synagogues, being
glorified of all. 16 And he came to
Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into
the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17And there was delivered
unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he
found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me,
because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me
to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and
recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20 And he closed the book, and he
gave [it] again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that
were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 And he began to say unto them,
This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. 22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words
which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son? 23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say
unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in
Capernaum, do also here in thy country. 24
And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own
country. 25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days
of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great
famine was throughout all the land; 26
But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, [a city] of
Sidon, unto a woman [that was] a widow. 27 And many lepers were in Israel in
the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman
the Syrian. 28 And all they in the
synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, 29 And rose
up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill
whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. 30 But he
passing through the midst of them went his way, 31 ¶ And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on
the sabbath days. 32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was
with power.
LUKE 5:3 And he entered
into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust
out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the
ship.
LUKE 6:6 And it came to
pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught:
and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
LUKE 11:1 ¶ And it came to pass, that, as he was praying
in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord,
teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
LUKE 19:47 And he taught
daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the
people sought to destroy him, 48 And
could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to
hear him. 20:1 ¶ And it came to pass, [that] on one of those
days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief
priests and the scribes came upon [him] with the elders,
JOHN 6:59These things said
he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. 60 ¶ Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard [this],
said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? 61 When Jesus knew in himself
that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
62 [What] and if ye shall see the Son
of man ascend up where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the
flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit,
and [they] are life. 64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus
knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray
him. 65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me,
except it were given unto him of my Father. 66 From that [time] many of his
disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the
twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom
shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69And we believe and are sure
that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. 70 Jesus answered them,
Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
I STAND AT THE
DOOR AND KNOCK 57-1208 E-38 Our Jesus can come right into the midst of the people and
perform those very same acts, and what happens? The people will go away and say
it's mental telepathy. "Oh, he might be a spiritualist or a fortuneteller,
something that's happened in that manner." Oh, if God would open our eyes
and let us see what these things are. That door to the eye is in the heart. It
ain't what you see with your eye. That isn't seeing; that's looking. Jesus said
to Nicodemus, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
You don't see it with your eyes; you see it with your understanding. You look
with your eyes and understand with your heart. So the door of your eyes is in
your heart, because it's a door of understanding. "Oh, I understand that
Jesus said He would do that in the last day. I understand that these things are
the sign of God." Then how different. How it becomes a reality to you. How
things change if our eyes are open. He's with you all the time. He helps you.
He's standing at your door daily, but you don't recognize it.
LOOKING AT THE
UNSEEN 59-0410 E-6 Some time ago the critics used to say that God certainly made a
mistake when He said, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." But
later they find out now that God was right. They said a man had no mental
faculties in his heart, and that perhaps if God said that his heart, He meant
his head. But God doesn't make any mistakes. When He said his heart, He meant
his heart. Just like He does all of His other statements, they are perfect and
they need no translations. They are just the way God said them. Not for another
age or another time, but for whosoever will at all times, for God's Word is
perfect, everlasting, eternal, as He is eternal. So about four years ago up in
Chicago, I was reading a great headline in a paper where that the medical
science had found a little compartment in the heart of a human being that did
not even have a cell in it. It was not found in the animal life; it was only
found in the human body, the human heart. And they said, "It must been the
dwelling place of the soul." So then man does think with his heart. You
look with your eyes, but you understand with your heart.
JOHN 7:14 ¶
Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and
taught. 15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having
never learned? 16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but
his that sent me. 17 If any man will
do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or [whether]
I speak of myself. 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he
that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness
is in him.
JOHN 7:27 Howbeit we know
this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is. 28
Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye
know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true,
whom ye know not. 29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me. 30 Then they sought to take him: but no man
laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
JOHN 7:33 Then said Jesus
unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and [then] I go unto him that sent
me. 34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find [me]: and where I am, [thither] ye
cannot come. 35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that
we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and
teach the Gentiles?
JOHN 8:1 ¶ Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2 And
early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came
unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
JOHN 8:20 These words spake
Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on
him; for his hour was not yet come.
JOHN 8:28 Then said Jesus
unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am
[he], and [that] I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I
speak these things.
JOHN 14:26 But the
Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he
shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you.
JOHN 18:19 The high priest
then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine. 20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the
world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews
always resort; and in secret have I said nothing. 21 Why askest thou me? ask
them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
