The Doctrine of Christ no 20
“God raised Jesus”
Brian Kocourek, Pastor
October 1st, 2011
This evening we will look at
how God raised
up Jesus from the dead. Now if the Scripture teaches us God
raised Jesus from the dead, then he did not raise up Himself.
To begin we will open to the
Book of Acts and
we will read from chapter 2:22 Ye
men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of
you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being
delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken,
and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having
loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden
of it.
Again we see in the book of Acts 3:13 The
God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye
delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined
to let him go. 14 But ye denied the Holy One and
the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
Acts 3:26 Unto you first God, having raised up his Son
Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his
iniquities.
Acts
4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said
unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, 9 If
we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what
means he is made whole; 10 Be it known unto you
all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God
raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of
you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other:
for there is none other name under
heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Now, that include Yahweh,
and Elohim, and other such names in which man has called God, God. There is
only one name given under heaven whereby we must be saved. So for those people
who claim to believe this Message and want to make everything, Yahweh this or
Elohim that, let’s just say what the Scriptures say.
Years ago when I lived in
Because Jesus said I come in my Father’s name. And
Paul said there is only one name by which we are saved, and he also said all
that you do in word or deed do all in the name of Jesus.
Rising
of the sun 65-0418M P:1 As
people today are trying to say, we should wash feet once a year on--on Thursday,
and on Friday we should take the communion, and all different doctrines of...
They argue about whether it should be this day or that day, or whether it
should be a sabbath day or the first day of the week or... All these things are
just merely tradition. What good would any of it do you, whether you had Lent
or not Lent, if there's no Life in you. It's only a memorial, which there's
nothing against it, but they have certainly carried out their traditions but
left off the main thing. Satan doesn't
care how religious you are, or how right you are in your doctrine; if you miss that Life, you're won't come up
anyhow. No matter how religious, how good, how many churches you've
belonged to or will belong to, it doesn't matter one thing unless you have been
born again. Therefore, if God raised up Jesus from the dead, did He raise Him
up for a memorial, and is this resurrection morning only a one day in the year
or a certain day that we celebrate this, or
are we benefactors of His resurrection? What does it mean to me? What does
it mean to you? Now, we believe by faith
that He raised from the dead, but what has that got to do with me? That was
two thousand years ago.
Acts 5:29
Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought
to obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our
fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. 31Him
hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give
repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
Rising of the sun 65-0418M P:88 Now,
notice this Quickening Power, "Zoe," bringing the Word, the mind that was in Christ was in you
then. I'm trying to show you, that you, when God raised Jesus from the
dead, He raised up you also, and also
quickened to Life with Him (You are now quickened to Life.), although then
you were but an attribute in His thoughts, but God had saw all in Him at the
finish. See? When God looked down upon the body... (The Spirit left Him in the
So now as we read about God
raising up Jesus I hope you can see that the Scripture speaks of You as well.
For the whole family of heaven is named Jesus. Now, as we turn further into the
Book of Acts let’s read about God raising up Jesus with a newness that we did
not have before. That is why in Galatians 2:20
we read, I have
been crucified with Christ, nevertheless I am living, yet it is not I that is
living, but Christ is alive and living in me, and the Life I am now living in
this body, I am living by the Faith of Jesus Christ the son of God who died and
gave His life for me, and to me that He might live again in my body.
Again we see in Acts 10: 34 Then Peter opened his mouth,
and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh
righteousness, is accepted with him. 36 The word
which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ:
(he is Lord of all:) 37 That word, I say, ye know,
which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the
baptism which John preached; 38 How God anointed
Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing
all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in
the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: 40 Him
God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; 41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God,
even to us, who did eat and drink with
him after he rose from the dead. 42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people,
and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick
and dead. 43 To him give all the prophets witness,
that through his name whosoever
believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. 44 While Peter yet spake these
words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
Acts 13:30 But
God raised him from the dead: 31 And he was seen many days of
them which came up with him from Galilee to
32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that
the promise which was made unto the fathers, 33 God
hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the
second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day
have I begotten thee. 34 And as concerning
that he raised him up from the dead,
now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the
sure mercies of David. 35 Wherefore
he saith also in another psalm, Thou
shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 36 For
David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep,
and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: 37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. 38 Be it known unto you
therefore, men and brethren, that through
this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: 39 And by him all that believe
are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law
of Moses. 40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon
you, which is spoken of in the prophets; 41 Behold,
ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I
work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a
man declare it unto you.
And have we not had God work
a work in our days and a man declare it with a message, and yet they still do
not believe just as promised in scripture.
Again we see in Acts 17:31 But God
raised him from the dead: Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of
God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold,
or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. 30 And
the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men every where
to repent: 31 Because he hath appointed a day, in
the which he will judge the world in
righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given
assurance unto all men, in that he hath
raised him from the dead.
32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some
mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

As brother Branham said, we
are the body of Christ, so when God raised up that body we were also raised
with him. And that is what Paul says in Ephesians
1:20, And what is the exceeding
greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his
mighty power, 20 Which
he wrought in Christ, when he raised him
from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might,
and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in
that which is to come: 22 And
hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things
to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
Romans 4: 17 (As
it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he
believed, even God, who quickeneth the
dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. 18 Who against hope believed
in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that
which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. 19 And
being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was
about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:
20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but
was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And
being fully persuaded that, what he had
promised, he was able also to perform. 22 And
therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. 23 Now
it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe
on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25 Who was delivered for our
offences, and was raised again for our justification.
From
that time 60-0716 P:59 God took Him up to
Romans 6: 3 Know
ye not, that so many of us as were
baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore
we are buried with him by baptism into
death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For
if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also
in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this,
that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be
destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For
he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall
also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being
raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once:
but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11 Likewise
reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Let us
see God 59-1129 P:66 God
is in His Word. Anybody will take His Word, any promise... Let me go on record
by saying this. If you'll take the right mental attitude towards any Divine
promise of God, it'll bring it to pass. That's what I think about His Word. You
take any promise in Here, and you take the right mental attitude towards it,
God will bring it to pass for you. God
is in His Word. God is in His Son.
He was Divine. He's the Son of God.
I believe that with all that's in me. I believe it. Yes, sir. He was not
more... He was a prophet. Sure, He was a prophet; He was a preacher; He was a
singer. He was--He was God, God
manifested in the flesh. God come down in the flesh to reconcile the world
to Himself. Then that wonderful Son of
God died. And when He died, He gave
His Life. He rose again on Easter, and God
raised up His body and set it on His right side, and sent the Holy Spirit back
to continue to manifest Himself among the people.
Romans 8:10 And if
Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life
because of righteousness. 11 But
if the Spirit of him that raised up
Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall
also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12 Therefore,
brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye
through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the
sons of God.
In talking about Elijah brother Branham said in his sermon, God's provided place of worship 65-0425 P:59 Now,
we find out, the old fellow being a prophet, he cursed that thing and
everything, stayed perfectly in the will of God. When all the rest of the
preachers weakened off, he stayed right there with It. And one day he got so
tired, that God sent a chariot down from heaven, and horses of fire, and took
him up, he was so full of that Quickening Power. Just think, with the Word of
God in his heart, he become so full of that Quickening Power that quickened
him." If the Spirit of God, He..." I believe we find in Romans 8:11,
it is. "If the Spirit that raised up Jesus from the
dead be in you, it will also quicken your mortal bodies."
If the Spirit that raised up Jesus from the dead, if, if It be in you, It'll also quicken your mortal bodies: quicken it. What does the word "quick" mean?
The Greek word means, "to be brought to life after death." Hallelujah.
There's the gate of worship, worshipping in the Spirit and in Truth, mechanics and dynamics together. You
see what I mean? If the Spirit that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in
you, It will quicken, make alive, your
mortal bodies, because It's already Life. And when It comes into your body, It brings your whole body subject to It.
Subject to what? The Word of God, if it's in you.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess
with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath
raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved.
Thinking
man's filter 65-0822E P:78 Look at this modern church. Look at their
filter. You can see what they love. See what they got. The love... What do they
love? Miss Laodicea which is headed for God's judgment. That's right. The love,
the church love today is for
Galatians 1:1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by
man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the
Father, who raised him from the dead;
1Corinthians 6: 14 And
God hath both raised up the Lord,
and will also raise up us by his own power.
1Corinthians 15:15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of
God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised
not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17 And
if Christ be not raised, your faith is
vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ
are perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope
in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20 But
now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came
also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in
Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the
firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his Parousia. 24 Then cometh the end, when he
shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have
put down all rule and all authority and power. 25 For
he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26 The
last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 27 For
he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put
under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. 28 And when all things shall be subdued unto
him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things
under him, that God may be all in all.
Rising
of the sun 65-0418M P:71 You who were once dead in sin and
trespasses, and darkness has He
quickened. What by? His Spirit that
raised up Jesus on Easter morning from the dead. And if It dwells in your mortal bodies (Now, watch.), It also quickens, brings to Life, makes
it subject to the Word. Now, how
can you claim to have that Spirit and throw yourself away from the Word? You're quickened by something else.
For It will quicken your mortal bodies
to the Word. Sure It will. You can't run without It. You'll just sputter if
you don't believe all of It. If you have part gasoline and part water, you
ain't going to go nowhere. See? You've got to take it one hundred percent
gasoline. If you don't, you're backfiring; you ain't got no power. See?" But
I'll... I believe this, but I don't believe that." Pump-pump-pump-pump.
You ain't going nowhere. But, oh, when you take the fullness, let it light up
on that. Every Word is Truth.
2 Corinthians 4:14 Knowing
that he which raised up the Lord Jesus
shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
Colossians 2:12 Buried
with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through
the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the
uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he
quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
1 Peter 1:21 Forasmuch
as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and
gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But
with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world,
but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised
him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in
God. 22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth
through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one
another with a pure heart fervently: 23 Being born again, not of
corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and
abideth for ever. 24 For all flesh is as grass, and
all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the
flower thereof falleth away:
25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this
is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
1 Thessalonians 1:10 For our gospel came not unto you in word
only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye
know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. 6 And
ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much
affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost: 7 So that ye
were ensamples to all that believe in
