Token no 28

Borderline Believers

Let us remain standing as we open our Bibles to Numbers the thirteenth chapter to take our text for our study of the Token this morning. This will be number 28 in our series, and we will entitle it, "Borderline Believers".

Numbers 13:1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.

Let us pray,...

Notice these men that the Lord God was sending to spy out the land were not just ordinary Israelites. Notice I said, the lord sent them, Moses never sent them. They were not sent by man, but the Bible is very plain the Lord spoke to His mouth Place and send I want you to send these men.

These were the leaders of the people. These were men who were responsible. These were men who were used to handling difficult situations of all sorts and these men were decision makers. They were used to adversary. They grew up in adversity under the strong hand of Egypt. And these men had decided already to follow God's vindicated prophet out of Egypt under the Pillar of Fire.

These men were eye witnesses to the mighty hand of God performing miracle after miracle in the Land of Egypt first, and then as God destroyed the armies of Egypt. These men had been traveling with Moses and they knew first hand that God was leading them. They were being led by the Pillar of Fire.

And now God was sending them on a trip into the land of promise to search out the land God had promised them. and to see what kind of land, (what kind of Promise) God had given to them.

3 And Moses by the commandment of the Lord sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.

Again Moses didn't send them, but it says Moses by the commandment of the Lord , so in writing down this account of what took place, he was sure to record, that it wasn't him sending in these men, but God was sending them. So he recorded that all these men were the leaders, all these men were the heads of the their tribes, and the leadership of the children of Israel. These were the men who were in charge of their tribes. These were responsible men you should be able to count on,

4 And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur. 5 Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.

6 Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

7 Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.

8 Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.

9 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.

10 Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.

11 Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi. 12 Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.

13 Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.

14 Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.

15 Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

16 These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua. 17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, "Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain: 18 And see the land, what it is, and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many; 19 And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds; 20 And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes. 21 So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath. 22 And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

Let me just stop here for a moment to comment on this. Anak was a giant, and his seed were giants. From the website The most common term used to describe giants in the Bible is the Hebrew word rephaim as we see in Deuteronomy 3:11- 13.

Deuteronomy 3:11-13 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold his bedstead (that's his sarcophagus which is: usually a  stone  coffin,  especially one bearing sculpture inscriptions, etc., often displayed as  a  monument, but notice his sarcophagus) was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, (Now, that means it was 13 feet 6 inches, which to place it into perspective, it would fit two men length to length who were 6 ft 9 inches tall.) and four cubits (that's 6 feet wide) the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man (which is 18 inches per cubit). 12 And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites. 13 And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants.

Now, the reason I've brought this out for your attention, is because these men were asked to give a report of the land that God had promised them. God promised to lead them into a promised land, a land flowing with milk and honey. And He in the form of His Pillar of Fire would go before them, and lead them there.

Now, these men had gone over to check out the promises, but there is no indication that the Pillar of Fire went with them at this point. There's was a journey into the promise, and to come back and report on what they saw.

In order to possess that promise of God they had some pretty large obstacles to overcome. And we have been promised in the Third exodus that "the Pillar of Fire will lead us into the Millennium" which is our promised land. But I have news for you, if you are just a church person you will look at what difficulties are coming down the road for you before you get there, and if you think you will just walk into the rapture, like you're out for a stroll, you don't understand the God we serve. And you do not believe Alpha repeats in Omega.

Israel At Kadesh Barnea P:43  [53-0328] 43  Now, Kadesh... And there he said, "Now, you go out and spy out." God sent them; Moses never. God sent them over, and said, "Go over and spy out the land, and come back and tell us whether it's a good land or a bad land, or whether we can take it, or what this, that, or the other. You go over and find out." And twelve went over.

23 And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs. 24 The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence. 25 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

That's how long the first resurrection was, and perhaps the second resurrection if Alpha repeats in Omega, and since we have had now, three Exoduses under the same Pillar of Fire, the same God leading in all three, and we have the same promise given by the God that He would lead us by His Pillar of Fire into the Millennium, then I think we are headed for some real testing before we get there.

26 And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.

Well, so far so good, the people see the evidence brought back that there is indeed a land of promise as God said there would be.)

27 And they told him, and said, "We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it."

But then something changed. The people saw the evidence of the promised land, and they heard that it was just as God had told them, but then they said, ...

28 Nevertheless (oh what a word to use when speaking of God's promises. That word, "nevertheless" means: Yes we have seen the promises of God, and yes the land will yield fruit such as what we brought back, "but" and that word "but" or "nevertheless", is where they begin to add to and take away from what God had told them.

You see, instead of focusing on the Word of promise that God gave them, they looked at the obstacles they had to overcome. and to do that you have to take your eyes off the Word of Promise and focus on the obstacles.

And in their case those obstacles were men who were giants living there. Now, these men they called giants were not just 7 feet tall, because many Israelite were close to 6 feet tall, or more like King Saul had been, so 7 feet would not make them to feel so insignificant that they would call themselves grasshoppers in comparison.

Listen to their wrong focus here: "the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there. 29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.

Notice they said, "we saw the children of Anak there"... You know, the men who are more were more than 12-13 feet tall like King Og?

But listen, how Caleb perceived these same obstacles. He said 30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. 31 But the men that went up with him said, "We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we". 32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, "The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature." 33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Notice they said, "we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, in other words, in our own opinion we were like grasshoppers, and also in the opinion of those giant men that we met. so they listened to the opinions of men rather than to the promise of God, and look what it did to their own report. They believed the report of the giants over the word of the Lord.

Israel At Kadesh Barnea P:43  [53-0328] 43 They cut a great cluster of grapes. You know about the harlot Rahab and so forth. All right. They went over and cut this cluster of grapes and returned back. But listen at the report: twelve men, and ten out of the twelve said, "Oh, they are a fearful people." Look over here, what a--what a sight. Listen to this when we turn over now to the 27th verse, to read: Goes ahead and tells there the men that was sent out. And when they returned back, their hearts were fainting; they said, "Oh, they're great men." Listen here. And they told them, and said, We come into the land wherewith thou sent us, and surely it flows with milk and honey; and it is the fruit of it. (Just as God had promised.

Israel At Kadesh Barnea P:43  [53-0328] 43 And Caleb,... (Hallelujah.)... Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. I like that. My, just a little farther. But the man that went up with him said, We be not able to go... against the people; for they are stronger than we. And they brought up a evil report of the land which they had searched out for the children of Israel, saying, The land,... which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men... great statue. Listen to that. And it goes on to say that, "We look like grasshoppers up the side of them." That's the report.
But Caleb and Joshua said, "We can take it. We are able to do it." Why are they able to do it? God had promised them to do it. I like that courage.

Now, listen to what brother Branham continues to say in The Token, ...

102 Minister, member, good man, moral man, whatever you are, and you know that God taken cigarettes from you... Women, you know He taken shorts, and short hair, and everything from you. You know He did that, but then if you turn around, and do despite, and count that Blood of the covenant as was an unholy thing, that sanctified you and brought you this far...Like the spies, if they come right up here to the borderland, looked over and said, "Well, I know it is there, but the obstacle's too great. We look like grasshoppers." They perished in the wilderness: borderline believers.

Notice brother Branham just presented the story of the Spies who came up to the borderline and quit, and he brings that same scene back to this Exodus and says,

103 Don't just come this far, say, "I believe the message." You obey the message. Come into Christ. You say, "Oh, I believe every word you said, Brother Branham."That's good. but that is just being able to read. Take the Message; take it into your heart, that you must have the Token, the very Life that was in Christ, be in you. "When I see that, I will pass over you."

Notice how brother Branham ties to the spies where they had witnessed the mighty hand of God that brought them out of Egypt, and all the miracles that took place, and he ties that with the people who had personally been delivered from many situations by the same hand of God whether it be addiction or affliction. And he says, you can't stop there, you've got to come all the way into the promise which is Christ.

Oh, my, how sad it is to see people follow the pillar of fire in this hour, and then get scared off just before coming all the way into Christ.

How many borderline believers left their denominational Egypt only to fall short of entering into Christ in this hour. They came out of their Egypt, their denominational churches and witnessed the upernatural manifestation of God in this hour through his prophet, but when they were asked to bring back a report, they had to do so without the prophet going with them, and when they seen the obstacles, they said, only the prophet can do it, God is not with us, he is only with His prophet, and we cannot do it. John 14:12 doesn't work anymore. and we have trouble even with Mark 16.

And then brother Branham continues by saying, 104 As we see the great end time signs on earth today, we know that that's right. Now, look, I've waited for this for a long, long time, for this Message to you (See?), and you've seen the end time signs. And I've preached it to you and showed it to you by everything that Christ said. Is that right? You'll admit that. At the end time, I don't see nothing left. You say, "What about the mark of the beast?" Those who reject the Holy Spirit, is already marked by the beast. The punishment will come later. See?

Now, catch this next thought here because he is speaking of the Jubilee trumpet sounding, and the Jubilee trumpet just sounded a few weeks ago, for the year of Jubilee. So we are there.

105 In Israel, when the trumpet sounded in the jubilee year, every man... Did you notice Christ a reading that? He just read half of it, 'cause just half of it was applied to that time. See? "He sent Me to bind up the broken hearted, preach deliverance (and so forth See?), and the acceptable year of the Lord." The rest of it, He never read that; He laid the Scroll down, for that's for this day. See? He just read part of it: part was His day. Now, this is what He's going to do today. This is what He's speaking through His anointed Spirit to the church today. Now, is the hour. Now, is the time. Receive it, people; receive it.

Now, brother Branham is referring to Luke 10:14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. 16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. ²⁰ And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. ²¹ And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

Notice that Jesus closed the book before reading the rest of what Isaiah said because the rest of what he said was not for that hour as brother Branham said.

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

Notice the last part says, "and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;" So Jesus had to close the book before he read that, because that day of vengeance was not for that hour, but for this hour.

106   Watch. We see the great end times, the flashing red lights everywhere; upon nature, we see nature flashing the light. The time is at hand. We see it upon the church: flashing light; she's condemned.

What does he mean we see it upon the church because we see it in nature. And he says it's a flashing red light. Well, we know the moon represents the church and it is supposed to give light in the absence of the sun. And the church is supposed to give light in the absence of the Son of God. And we have seen God's judgment sign in the heavens, as the light reflecting from the Moon (which represents the church) and on four consecutive High Holy days we've seen that light go out, then come on and go out and come on and go out and come on, and each time it is red, a red flashing light of His soon coming.

"The time is at hand. She's in the world. We see it upon the skies, upon the sea, upon the nation, upon everywhere, in the sun, moon, stars, signs. We see the end time signs of the Holy Ghost return back upon the people. As it was in the days of Lot, how the Holy Spirit worked through that human flesh there: that was God manifested in flesh. How God would manifest Himself in His Bride in that day and show the same sign. Jesus said, "It'll be the same thing in the last days." We see it. We see the same Pillar of Fire. Even science has took the pictures of It and so forth. We see the end time signs is at hand. We know it's here. And then seeing this, if you believe me, if you don't believe me, believe the signs. Believe the Word, for they speak of what I'm telling you.

Oh, brother, these end time scoffers even naming their website "believe the sign", What an indictment, what condemnation to their own unbelief. Even Jesus said the same thing. He said "if you can't believe me, at least believe the sign". if I do not the works of my Father you have a right to not believe me, but if you don't believe me, at least believe me for the works sake.

John 10:37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do the works of my Father, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

But will they? I do not think so, because Jesus himself said they won't.

John 8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. (And hear means to understand) 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. 46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? 47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Now, back to the token, paragraph 107 If I ain't telling you the truth, they'd never speak back. God will never speak to a lie. God speaks to truth. And these words are testifying that I'm telling you the truth. They are the one that testify of the Message that I'm preaching. Not only the Angel down there on the river that day that said, "Your message will forerun the second coming of Christ," the works itself... If you can't believe that Angel told the truth, believe the works, for the Bible said these things would happen at the end-time. They are they that testify. They're the ones that speak louder than my words, or anyone else. It's His Word. They testify of the time.

108 And we see these great, horrible ensigns upon the people, and signs of the time upon the earth: distress between the nations. We see Israel in her homeland, the ensign, the six star point, Star of David flying, the oldest ensign in the world, the oldest flag in the world. She's a nation; she's a government; she's her own people; she's in the League of Nations; she's all these things; she's in the U.N.; and she's got her own currency, everything. Jesus said, "This generation shall not cease until everything be fulfilled." And you remember, the very night that Israel was made a nation, that was the night the Angel of the Lord appeared to me right yonder. That's right.

And at this time this nation through its leaders has turned away from Israel, and the nation that blesses Israel is blessed, but the nations that curse Israel will be cursed. and so the curse is on, my brothers and sisters.

And the Bible also warns us in Obadiah 1:15 "For the day of the LORD upon all the nations is near. As you have done to Israel, it shall be done to you. Your reprisal shall return upon your own head"

Joel 3:1 For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, 2  I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and divided my land.

And the scattering first part already place and God returned His people to Israel, and she is a nation, but now the United Nations and United States and the European Union all threaten to divide God's land of Israel. So God will do to them what they plan to do to her. And he has already began sending in the hordes of Immigrants coming in illegally and they are splitting up the nations everywhere.

109 There we all are. Everything is pointed up exactly the truth. I have not lied to you. I have told you the truth. God has testified that I've told you the truth. Now, remember, I'm your brother; I'm a man. See? I'm just a man, just like you all; but somebody's got to bring it; somebody's got to say it. That wasn't my choice; it was His choice. And I've told you the truth, and He's testified right back that it is the truth. When we see these things upon the earth today, oh, people, this is the last hour. Get that Token over you, quickly as you can, or you get in the Token; get in the Token.

110 As we see the great ensign of the time at hand, warning us: time is at hand... Oh, take this solemnly. We should love one another. Oh, my. We should be so in love. Don't never speak evil against one another. If somebody makes a mistake, pray for him, right quick. We are together in this with God. We are brothers and sisters. Oh, live godly. Live like daughters of God. Live like sons of God. Live sweet, kind, humble. Let no evil come in your mind in your thinking; just dismiss it. If it knocks on the door, take it away, just show your Token. Just keep walking. "I'm under the Blood."

111 Remember, there's a lot of them come by, them women, that night, and say, "Hey, girlie, Lily, some of you, come on out; we're going to a party tonight.""Huh uh, I'm under the Blood. I'm under the Token to stay here. My love is to my Maker. Death is in the land tonight." And death is in the land today. Judgment is waiting; she's pending. Atomic, and hydrogens, and all kinds of disaster is waiting for the nations. And God is moving His church and showing all... We been keeping the Lamb up now for quite awhile, watching, seeing what He's doing, watching His nature and everything, but now the Token's got to be applied. It's got to be applied. It's the only thing. "Except a man be born of the Spirit and of water, He will in no wise enter in."

In the book of Ezekiel 13:10-14 we are told, “‘Because they lead my people astray, saying, “Peace,” when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, (the walls of separation between Israel and the New Palestinian state) they cover it with whitewash, The flimsy wall of separation that is supposed to broker peace is the new state of Palestine/Israeli border, which the PLO and the other extremist terrorist groups are flinging their missiles over daily, what use is a fence, wall or an white washed agreement that is supposedly to bring peace. 11 therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. What’s going to fall? The agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Arabs because we already read in Joel 3 where God said, “I shall reverse the captivity and restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem”.

So God Himself promised to begin destruction by hurricanes to those who would pursue the division of Israel and the false hope of Peace that would come by a whitewashed agreement. Notice again verse 11 tells us, 11 therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash (hogwash) that it is going to fall. Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds (hurricanes and tornadoes) will burst forth. 12 When the wall collapses, will people not ask you, “Where is the whitewash you covered it with?” 13 “‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind,(hurricanes and tornadoes) and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury. (the flooding aftermath of the hurricanes and tornadoes) 14 I will tear down the wall you have covered with whitewash (hogwash) and will level it to the ground so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you will be destroyed in it; and you will know that I am the LORD. 15 So I will pour out my wrath against the wall and against those who covered it with whitewash. I will say to you, “The wall is gone and so are those who whitewashed it, 16 those prophets of Israel who prophesied to Jerusalem and saw visions of peace for her when there was no peace, declares the Sovereign LORD.”’

Obadiah 1:15 "For the day of the LORD upon all the nations is near. As you have done to Israel, it shall be done to you. Your reprisal shall return upon your own head"

The Results of Dealing With Yasser Arafat

September 1, 1993: President Clinton announces he will meet Arafat and Rabin on September 13 in Washington, DC to begin the Oslo Peace Accords. After nearly a week of meandering in the Atlantic Ocean, Hurricane Emily hits North Carolina on this day.


March 2, 1997: Arafat meets with President Clinton in Washington, DC. The same day awesome tornado storms unleash tremendous damage in Arkansas and flooding in Kentucky and Ohio. Arkansas and Kentucky declared disaster areas.


January 21, 1998: President Clinton is waiting to meet with Arafat at the White House. At this exact time the President's sex scandal breaks.


September 27, 1998: Arafat is meeting with the President in Washington. Hurricane Georges hits Alabama and stalls. The Hurricane stalls until Arafat leaves and then it dissipates. Parts of Alabama declared a disaster area.


October 17, 1998: Arafat comes to the Wye Plantation meeting. Incredible rains fall on Texas which causes record flooding. FEMA declares parts of Texas a disaster area.


November 23, 1998: Arafat comes to America. He meets with President Clinton who is raising funds for the Palestinian state. On this day the stock market fell 216 points.


December 12, 1998: On this day the US House of Representatives votes to impeach President Clinton. At the very time of the impeachment, the President is meeting with Arafat in Gaza over the peace process.


March 23, 1999: Arafat meets with Clinton in Washington, DC. Market falls 219 points that day. The next day Clinton orders attack on Serbia.

September 3, 1999: Secretary of State Albright meets with Arafat in Israel. Hurricane Dennis comes ashore on this very day after weeks of changing course in the Atlantic Ocean.


September 22, 1999: Arafat meets with Clinton in Washington, DC. The day before and after the meeting the market falls more than 200 points each day. This was the first time in history the market lost more than 200 points for two days in a week. The market lost 524 points this week.


June 16, 2000: Arafat meets with President Clinton. The market falls 265 points on this day.


July 12-26, 2000: Arafat at the Camp David meetings. Powerful droughts throughout the country. Forest fires explode in West into uncontrolled fires. By the end of August, fire burns 7 million acres.


November 9, 2000: Arafat meets with President Clinton at the White House to try and salvage the peace process. This was just two days after the presidential election. The nation was just entering into an election crisis which was the worst in over 100 years.


November 11, 2001: Arafat speaks at the UN General Assembly and condemns Israel. He later meets with Secretary of State Colin Powell. On this day, Saddam threatens the US with nuclear weapons. Within 24 hours of meeting with Powell, an airplane crashes in NYC killing 265 people. The crash was 15 miles from where Arafat Spoke.

The storm weakened before making its second landfall as a Category 3 storm on the morning of Monday, August 29 in southeast Louisiana. It caused severe destruction along the Gulf coast from central Florida to Texas, much of it due to the storm surge. The most significant amount of deaths occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana, which flooded as the levee system catastrophically failed, in many cases hours after the storm had moved inland. Eventually 80% of the city and large tracts of neighboring parishes became flooded, and the floodwaters lingered for weeks. However, the worst property damage occurred in coastal areas, such as all Mississippi beachfront towns, which were flooded over 90% in hours, as boats and casino barges rammed buildings, pushing cars and houses inland, with waters reaching 6–12 miles (10–19 km) from the beach.
